Halloween :) - project time!

I know its WAY ahead of time but i always wait until the last minute, think i can make a costume in time and just end up in my regular clothes or with kitty ears on. so i am planning on making this costume :)

Was wondering if anyone else has past costumes they made, or what people are planning for the next costume event they attend :)?

Any suggestions, tutorials, ideas or thoughts? it will be the first actual outfit i make :)

Should i buy patters? make my own? or just do some reconstruction and altering with already made clothing?

haha. i usually have a similar problem with procrastination. As far a tutorials go if you come up with an idea of a character, key it plus tutorial into youtube, and there is a good chance you will find one. Thread bangers has quite a few costumes in its video archives also -(mad hatter, sweeny todd inspired stuff, even a couple street fighter characters)- I have yet to be able to finish any outfit with a pattern for some reason so i generally do a lot of reconstruction myself.

Wow, you're ambitious.

I find that the BEST and MOST important thing about any costume is accessories. I've had to do performances with a wide range of themes and have found that the same basic outfit can instantly be transformed into an entirely difference look with accessories. Think about your hat, shoes, bracelets, necklace, wings, makeup, hair, etc.

Yes! The other night I rummaged through my clothes for a costume. Ended up with a purple skirt, purple boots, and a long (also purple) ringmaster style coat. Added a string of grape vines (from the floral section at Wal-Mart) for a crown and I was Baccus, god of wine. Then my husband decided to go as a ninja, so I traded the grape crown for a headband and added a pair of arm warmers... and TA-DA, I'm a ninja too!

:) Nope, still want to make the costume eventually but this year i am going to be a doll on strings... or more like a puppet on strings :)... still get to be crafty... ill post pics soon. its been way too long since ive been on this site!!!!!
