Hey guys,

I was wondering something. How has your style changed over the years? When I was a kid I LOVED polka dots and funnily enough I still do!  Then I had a terribly awkward phase in  middle school, went funky/punky/alternative in college, then boring in university while doing my teaching degree and am only now starting to find my groove again after own too many pairs of "teacher" pants.

So what's it been like for you? How has your style changed over the years?

teacher pants ..lol
you are still teaching..different pants though
i went from skater, grunge in elementary to goth/punk in high school, to hippie, boho in college to now. my dream wardrobe would consist of a lot more skirts and layers, but moneys been absent in my "shopping savings" for a while now haha. i hope to make some really awesome clothes for myself, along with for my store, this winter.

oh, and btw, if any of my teachers were as hot as you safire, i doubt anyone would care about their "teacher" pants.

im glad im not the only one thats been sort of out-of-touch with their style. i guess it happens to the best of us.
lets see, in fifth grade i went through an 'its cool to look like a boy' stage with baggy pants and knee length t=shirts,
then i realized i was a girl my first year of middle school and embraced the semi preppier side. Didnt last long before i found rock music and started my goth phase which lasted untill about my junior year when i found color. I was like a walking rainbow half the time.

TNow i kind of change course a lot. Monday i might be wearing a really earthy hippiesque outfit. The next day Im in raver mode again, and by Friday i can be victorian wearing a corset with long crinoline skirt, and hit the goth stage by saterday. I am however falling madly in love with the steampunk style. who knows what style i will have next month.
Hmmm...where to start. I guess early middle school brought me to what I would call the "I listen to TOOL and wear make-up, black make-up, Can't you tell?" phase. Looking back I guess it was a mix between goth & grunge. After about a year it faded into just grunge, wearing whatever dirty jeans & sweatshirt I could find in order to run out the door & make it to school....late. Once I hit high school I started to develop a sense of style & become more interested in fashion. I was a chameleon, total punk one day, complete prep the next. I still try to implement this into my wardrobe today, wearing whatever feels right! After high school I really lost touch with fashion. Living on your own for the first time & being a college student really put a damper on my clothing funds! Over the last few years I have begun searching for my style again. I have grown so much as a person & am ready for my clothing to express who I am again! I have recently begun reconstructing t.shirts and have been having so much fun with it! Burning Man has been a huge influence on my clothing/costuming choices as well! I love the BRC fashion! I guess my style now would just be an eclectic mix. I will always love a pair of perfect jeans with a t.shirt, but I also love the boho/hippy chick style, as well as a lot of the rockeresque accessories. But no matter what style it is, if it is pink, I will probably love it, along with anything with rhinestones. I am a slave to my bedazzler :) I guess my style is really all over the place, but it is fun finding out what I like again :)
I have always loved stripes, skirts, sweaters, and funky patterns. I guess they have evolved and grown over the years, but nothing too drastic.
Oh yes... Stripes and Polka Dots!
From what Mom bought for me to what I thought I should wear to look appropriate in the workplace (suits, slacks, etc.), my style has finally arrived at an eclectic mix of clothes - casual for work and running around, slightly dressier for church and special occasions, sporty for hoop practice, and boho for when I feel like doing something different.

I try to choose things that fit well (went through a baggy phase, but I have a lot more body confidence now), have vibrant colors (mostly jewel tones or neutrals with pops of brighter color) and smaller scale prints since I'm short. Tops feature modest scoop or V necks; skirt and dress hemlines hit at or right below the knee (mid-calf for longer skirts and capris).

The main criterion is that the clothes make me happy when I put them on. I lived with clothing that made me unhappy for way too long; I refuse to do that any more.

If I buy something and don't like the look of it later, I'll alter it or donate it to Goodwill. If I really like something but it doesn't look good (which has been happening because I've lost weight and increased muscle tone thanks to hooping), I'll do the same - alter or donate. I just finished reconning a tee into a tank and some shapeless workout pants into more fitted capris. I'll have to post pix sometime soon.
Beautiful thought, CircularPraise: "The main criterion is that the clothes make me happy when I put them on."
Ditto.

That is such a beautiful way to looks at it.

Thanks, y'all. :)  Since I first posted this, I've regained a few pounds, but I'm still holding to my same MO for clothing - it has to fit properly, be hoopable, and make me happy to make it into my wardrobe.

I just turned a unitard I wasn't using into a pair of leggings to wear under my white dance dress and a dress I bought online that didn't fit right through the bodice into a skirt I can hoop in.  Gotta love that stitch rippin'! ;)

P.S. - Those workout pants I turned into capris?  Still too baggy through the stride, so I pitched 'em all.  Life's too short to wear clothes that aren't right for you, ya know?

Haha - you know you are getting older when you look back at your photos and say "what was I thinking". when i was a kid we didn't have verry much money so i wore what ever i could get , usually hand me downs from cousins and such. I went to my grandmas every sunday for dinner and that is where i learned how to sew, my uncle taught me:) I would make outfits for my barbies and daydream that someday i could have a closet just like my barbies! Then i will never forget my first year of junior high (mind you this was 1991) I wanted SO bad to just look like everyone else, it was a new start and i didn't want to be teased like i was in elementary school. Fitting in lasted about 6 months untill i realized that these people liked me for me and it didnt matter what i wore - thats when the real (weird) me came out haha. after that i went thru a grunge(lots of plaid flannel), Goth, Gangsta - and phases that there are no names for. After highschool I went color crazy, and after going to raves and burner events I thought "Finnally I can come out wearing bunny ears , a tutu , and a raygun and no one thinks i am a weirdo" haha I have to say "little me" would be so proud of "big me" I get to dress up for more than just halloween. My hair has also run the gambit - It started in 1990 and i really wanted a blonde streak like vanilla ice had - after that there was no stopping me , I just have to keep reminding myself not to ever get bangs again- I hate having people think I am 12 years old haha

Oh as a kid I looked totally like an 80ies super hero... weird hair and leggings with big neon prints oversized shirts and a neon utility belt were my favourite things on earth... cause I went to a catholic school then I went pretty conservative after that... then I found metal... and became super goth... ;) then I had some punky phase. When I went to university I was partlysuper boring and partly super freaky... I died my hair in all the colours you can think of... mixed vintage dresses and fuzzy jackets... now I have a mostly chilled style... I mostly wear basics and add pretty accesoires, I love my comfy clothing... I love nerdy shirts and bandshirts still :P

When I go out I like to look super burlesque and classic... curled up hair and red lipstick and dresses. :D

I am probably the weirdest mixture in style ever... you could not define it. Cause it is parts out of everything I ever liked.
